I watched the 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet, which was directed by Baz Luhrmann (Romeo+Juliet). It used the original language of Romeo and Juliet and move the setting in to another age, like now. They also abandon their weapon and use the guns to fight and defend them self. In this century those people did not change who they were in the 16 century and the Romeo was always childish no matter who was the actor. The whole movie did a great job for move this whole play in to 20 century but it still seem a little odd when people speak and react form all those things that happening.
The movie begin with a News that tell the preface which is a little disorder when I hear the teller speak like that, but I feel more normal when the Newspaper repeat that again. Those characters was exaggerate when they acted like they were begin with a fight and they also speak what they thought in the words which everyone can hear it but they will not react form what they think. And the setting was just like the original that about the hostility between two family but not too much on their love between two childish young child although they look like twenty in the movie. The dialogue made this movie funny and crazy then a remantaic movie but it attract the audience a lot. When Taybalt find Romeo in the part he is more anger then what he shows in the play, he had a face that want to kill romeo and everyone that stand between him and Romeo, that face makes me worried about Romeo although I know that he was fine. And that part Taybalt was killed I can see that he dishonorly kill the M and Romeo’s strong emotion to revenge
The science that Romeo and Juliet meet was change form the original but it was showing two young people when they get board with the party and finally find out each other between an fish tank, they will attracted by each other. Just like a lonely traveler find another one who want to go to the same place. They were not alone anymore when they find out that they were exist with their clear blue eyes. They use all the possible way to know each other, understand, and got in love. I feel that was more logic then fall in love at the first sight although that was fall in love at the first sight.
Friar Lawrence seem like a man who was intertwined with religion and science. He did what he think right and sent two young man into their own death. But also accomplished the objective that he start with, he unite the two family again after all those years they were hostitly with each other.
This movie was a good movie which makes something that happened in the history happened today with out makes the audience feel confused. And almost clear every point that master Shakespeare made in the original.
